Oscar Isaac Says STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Plot Rumors Are All Wrong

Recommended Posts

I get that online speculation about Star Wars: The Force Awakens is big business.  As big as “entertainment journalism†gets (though not, perhaps as rampantly popular as social media driven clickbait).  So I understand the business of it, but not necessarily the thirst that drives the demand for a seemingly constant supply of info.  Doesn’t anyone want to be surprised when they go into that theater a little less than a year from now?  Oscar Isaac, who plays rebel pilot Poe Dameron in the film wants you to be surprised.  And he also says that most of the stuff you’ve been reading about the movie is wrong.

A grain of salt.  Many of the more persistent and logical rumors about this movie stem from sites I actually trust quite a bit.  And let’s not forget that J.J. Abrams is known to run a tight enough ship to the point that his cast and crew have been known to lie to the press to protect their secrets (see the Star Trek Into Darkness “Khan†debacle – though I don’t necessarily blame them since this isn’t exactly Watergate).  Keeping all of that in mind, hit the jump to read why Oscar Isaac says those Star Wars: The Force Awakens plot rumors are all wrong.

star-wars-the-force-awakens-stormtrooperIsaac told Yahoo that the bulk of stuff he’s been reading is flat-out incorrect.  He also wonders why people even want to know at this point:

“I can’t speak for the cast and crew, I can just speak for myself, but for me I thought, Don’t you want to wait so you can get the real thing? But it creates excitement for it. I don’t think these little leaks necessarily ruined watching the trailer. And also, the [plot theories] that get that formulated based on these things — they couldn’t be more far off-base.â€

However, given the type of security the script is under, I’d probably err on the conservative side of being loose-lipped as well:

“You go to the place, and they have a room with cameras and you sit there and read the script. They’re incredibly protective, because nowadays, with however many hundreds of blogs and this and that, people are just ravenous for content. So because of that, there has to be such tight security around it. And it gets in the way of the process a bit, but it’s understandable.â€

I really hope I’m able to tune out on this one until December of next year, but something tells me that’s not going to happen.
