Gaye's daughter celebrates Blurred Lines ruling

Marvin Gaye's daughter Nona feels free from pain.

The singing legend's daughter has spoken out after yesterday's court ruling, which found that Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke had copied Marvin's 1977 track Got to Give It Up when penning their own smash-hit song Blurred Lines.

Marvin's family were awarded nearly $7.4million in damages, with Nona explaining how jubilant they are.

"It's a beautiful day when you can sit in a courtroom and have justice stand," she told New York Daily News.

"I feel free from the pain. It felt like a painful joke, those two years knowing our song was copied and not getting any serious feedback from their side. That's our father, that's what he left for us, our legacy."

Marvin's children started legal proceedings in 2013. While Pharrell and Robin lost their case, the jury found T.I. (real name Clifford Harris Jr.), who features on the record, was not involved with copyright infringement.

Both singers have issued statements with their take on the ruling.

"While we respect the judicial process, we are extremely disappointed in the ruling made today, which sets a horrible precedent for music and creativity going forward," said the statement, issued through Pharrell's publicist and the duos lawyer.

"Pharrell created Blurred Lines from his heart, mind and soul and the song was not taken from anyone or anywhere else. We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter."

Pharrell and Robin's lawyer Howard E. King also revealed the pair are considering an appeal.

'You haven't heard the end of this by a long shot,' he commented.
