UK Prime Minister May Censor Media

David Cameron has threatened the UK press that he might be bringing in censorship if the reporters don’t do what he tells them. Prime Minister requires the British press to stop publishing Edward Snowden leaks, as they always show that both the United States and the United Kingdom are being total rotters to their allies. Now Cameron went as far as to hint that unless they bow to his will he might do something to stop the press.
 

Prime Minister claimed that he is willing to talk to the press and lecture them endlessly about social responsibility. Ironically enough, most of the Snowden leaks have revealed how the American and British spying groups are acting without any sense of responsibility at all. Still, Prime Minister hinted on high court injunctions or the use of D notices in order to prevent the publication of data “able to damage national securityâ€.

Cameron claimed that the leaks were dangerous and warned that it would be difficult for him to avoid acting if press declined to heed government advice. At the same time, he told MPs that the country has a free press and it is actually very important that the newspapers feel they aren’t pre-censored from what they write and all the rest of it. It seems to be quite a strange idea that a free press should publish what one says.

UK Prime Minister has already been in the chilling position of sending black suits around to the Guardian newspaper, known for publishing Snowden leaks, in effort to smash up hard drives, and making arbitrary arrests of its journalists’ partners. Apparently, these efforts proved fruitless, because the Guardian continued to report NSA files from its New York office.

David Cameron had said that the oversight of UK’s intelligence agencies may have to evolve. He also announced that he had strengthened the oversight of the intelligence and security committee.

The industry observers suggest that the threats to press freedom in the United Kingdom came after the publication of revelations that the United States has monitored the mobile phone of the German chancellor Angela Merkel. Apparently, that is the sort of thing that David Cameron doesn’t want people to find out about.
