Portuguese report finds drop in use of pirate websites

Recommended Posts

A Portuguese government anti-piracy programme has reduced traffic to large-scale piracy websites by nearly 70 percent, according to a new report from online brand and content protection company Incopro. The report was commissioned by the Motion Picture Association (MPA) jointly with the local audiovisual association, Associacao Portuguesa de Defesa de Obras Audiovisuais (FEVIP). The findings show that, following the implementation of site blocking orders between November 2015 and June 2016, there was a significant reduction in users accessing infringing websites.

Out of the top 250 unauthorised sites in Portugal, 65 were blocked and decreased in usage by a total of 56.6 percent. Usage of the entire 250 unauthorised sites in Portugal decreased by 9.3 percent. Also, the usage of the 30 blocked Portuguese language sites that are listed in the top 250 unauthorised sites in Portugal decreased by 41.8 percent.
