Liverpool star may face trouble with Premier League over copyright risk

Recommended Posts

It’s not even been a week since it was reported that Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal may face trouble for posting a video of a goal he scored. Now a Liverpool player is in the same boat.

As
reported by The Sun earlier this week, the Spanish defender was said to be at risk of facing an FA charge for posting the video, one that he doesn’t own the copyright to.

It’s a widespread issue with attempts to shut down illegal streams and video posts being shared on
social media channels, but you wouldn’t expect it to come from a Premier League footballer.

That’s what Georginio
Wijnaldum has done though, as seen below with an Instagram post on his account, as he was seemingly pretty happy with his effort as Liverpool coasted to a 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Anfield on Saturday.

However, as
noted in the report from the Sun, Monreal had supposedly risked breaking ‘strict piracy laws’, and it was claimed that he would have to remove the video and had already potentially done enough to earn a slap on the wrists from Instagram.

The 31-year-old has indeed since deleted the post which
suggests that he probably did get a message from the Premier League to remove it. Unless Wijnaldum isn’t willing to play ball to take it down as he’ll get a similar knock on his door, there appears to be an easy fix to his problembut for now, the post remains published.
