GoT: HBO Boss Confirms Revival Will Never Happen For The Most Pirated TV Show

HBO held its TCA Winter Tour presentation over the weekend, where Game of Thrones was certainly one of the hottest topics of conversation. The network is currently in production on the Game of Thrones final season, with the network also developing five possible prequel shows, although some have wondered if there would be a possibility of a revival at some point down the road, but HBO programming president Casey Bloys shot down that speculation in a new interview. Here's what he had to say, when asked about this, "era of leaving the door open for revivals or undoing finales" and whether or not that would happen with Game of Thrones.

"That's not happening. This story, A Song of Fire and Ice, is done. There's no revival, reboot, spinoff talk."

Casey Bloys revealed last week that none of the Game of Thrones prequel shows will air until at least 2020, confirming there will be at least one year between the final season of the show, and whichever prequel show(s) get the green light. He wouldn't divulge any specific details about the shows, but he did reiterate previous statements that he only expects one show to be green lit, but he is prepared to make anywhere between "0 and 5." Here's what Casey Bloys had to say about the spin-offs below.

"There are five of them. If we do a pilot and series, nothing is going to air on HBO until at least a year after the final season. We're not doing a final season and then, 'Following it at 11 p.m..." I've seen some exciting material. We have really great writers working on these; it's very exciting. But there's no timetable. Not everybody is on the same schedule, so I've seen different versions of different things that are potentially exciting. But there's no timetable about when a decision would be made about any of them."

The show has been a massive success for the network, while still being the most pirated TV show, with a report from last month confirming that the show is the most pirated of all shows on the air. Game of Thrones has claimed this title for the past six years in a row, but with the final season not airing until 2019, there will likely be a new winner for 2018, unless fans keep pirating Season 7 episodes to get ready for the final season. With fans having to wait more than a full year for the final season, some have wondered if HBO would be in "trouble," but Casey Bloys was quick to shut those theories down.

"Everyone wrote last year about how we'd be in trouble without Game of Thrones (at the Emmys) and we did just fine," Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter. "This is an old story because every year, 'Oh, my God! What is HBO going to do?!' Last year, that was it, we were going to die at the Emmys without Game of Thrones. And we had Westworld, which is coming back this spring. And Big Little Lies and True Detective and Alan Ball has a new show, and Succession and Sharp Objects, which is fantastic. And the Watchmen script is fantastic."

No story details have been released for Game of Thrones Season 8, but there were Game of Thrones set photos leaked in November that hinted at a King's Landing battle scene. While nothing has been confirmed, a set being constructed was rumored to be one of the seven entrances into King's Landing, which may have been built to be destroyed during this rumored battle scene. You can head on over to The Hollywood Reporter for their full interview with HBO's Casey Bloys.
