The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Ibadan Zonal Office, has arrested a suspect and confiscated several communication gadgets in Osogbo for infringing on a Multichoice Nigeria broadcast right.

Mrs Olabisi Ogundiran, the Zonal Manager, NCC Ibadan Zonal Office, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Monday.

NAN reports that the suspect, Joseph Osagie, was arrested, while five DSTV decoders, one GoTv decoder, seven strong brand decoders, splitters, boosters, satellite dishes and several rolls coaxial cables were confiscated from him.

Ogundiran told NAN that the NCC had swung into action, having received complaint from Multichoice Nigeria on illegal retransmitting of its broadcast signals within a community in Osogbo, Osun State.

She stated that the zonal office of the commission, which covers five south western states of Nigeria, excluding Lagos, was directed to conduct an anti-piracy raid at the suspected target.

Ogundiran said that the anti-piracy team backed by policemen drawn from the Osun State CID swooped on the target within Dada Estate, Osogbo, in the wee hours of Friday, Jan. 26.

She stated that the suspect was arrested and several communication equipment used in retransmitting the company’s broadcast signals were seized.
Ogundiran said that the suspect and recovered contrivances had since been taken to the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Commission.

The zonal manager stated that further investigation has commenced, adding that the case would soon be charged to the appropriate court of jurisdiction.(NAN).
