As of today you'll start to see internal x264 encodes of UHD blu-ray sources with HDR. As the x264 encoder can't retain the HDR metadata, a conversion from HDR to SDR is needed (a process called tonemapping). This conversion is a highly subjective matter so we decided that all such internal encodes need to be approved by staff before they can be uploaded. This ensures that when you see an internal encode based on an UHD blu-ray source on the site you're guaranteed that

• there's a significant gain in picture quality of using the UHD blu-ray source over any existing regular blu-ray source
• the tonemapping applied has been carefully tested and agreed upon.

Moreover, all such encodes must be accompanied by a post in Forums > Comparison Discussion showing a comparison between the best available regular blu-ray, the UHD blu-ray tonemapped by the internal and the UHD blu-ray tonemapped by madVR (at 130 nits). The latter is there to show you what the difference will be compared to playing a remux of the UHD blu-ray source on a 1080p monitor without HDR.

To give you, the users, a chance of seeing what this is all about, our very first internal encode of a UHD blu-ray will be freeleech for a week. Huge thanks to Narkyy for doing most of the footwork on this matter.
