LaLiga and Thai League link up to further fight against piracy

LaLiga and the Thai League have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which they will work together, initially over the next two seasons, to promote football development. The signing ceremony took place today and was attended by Ivan Codina, the head of LaLiga's regional office in Singapore; Somyot Poompanmoung, the president of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT); and Emilio de Miguel Calabia, the Spanish ambassador to Thailand. The MoU will also establish the lines of communication for expertise to be exchanged on sports integrity, women's football and various aspects of sports management.

One of the focal points of the agreement will see LaLiga advise its Thai counterpart on the creation of sporting academies for youngsters and a development programme that will include training visits to Spain for under-16s, under-19s and under-21s players.

LaLiga will likewise provide the Thai League with guidance on how to develop the women's game in the Southeast Asian country, as well as on the creation of content related to its competitions and digital strategies to boost the profile of Thai professional football. On this note, knowledge-exchange initiatives will be undertaken, including the holding of workshops to give Thai clubs an insight into LaLiga's methods.

By signing the MoU, both institutions have also reaffirmed their commitment to guaranteeing a clean game, agreeing to join forces to tackle match-fixing and any other activities that bring football and sport into disrepute. Moreover, the Thai League will partner with LaLiga in the fight against piracy; the organisations will work together to shut down sites that offer illegal content, with the aim of redirecting traffic to authorised broadcasters.
