AAPA conference aims to tackle online piracy

A London conference will hear today how collaboration between broadcasters is helping in the fight against online piracy.

The illegal streaming workshop, organised by the Audiovisual Anti-Piracy Alliance (AAPA), is bringing together leading public sector enforcement companies, pay-TV providers and security companies.

Sky’s Phill Davies, who’s vice president of the AAPA, told Broadband TV News that the organisation’s members were working with companies such as PayPal to remove the ability of the online pirates to monetise their activities.

“We’re also talking to the major search engines to make the pirates more difficult to find,” said Davies. “A number of members have advanced communications strategies and is an area where we are working as the narrative of this kind of piracy is changing”.

Work is also being done on the supply side through hosting providers to remove the ability of content to be illegally placed on servers.
