Where am I and why

Before I start, some really strange performance issues with the site database server today, hence the slowness. Anyway, that is now fixed, performance is back to normal.

Now, on to what I want to say. I have held my silence for several years, but in order to put an end, (I hope), to all the noise in the shout box about my leaving this site I will say this. It's kind of funny that all of this is erupting now, considering that I have not been around for over two years. However, since it has, I will make the following comments. It seems that no matter what I do or say, (or don't do or say), always controversy seems to result. In a nutshell, that is why are no longer participating on this site, I just don't need the grief, particularly when I was volunteering huge amounts of time that I really did not have to spare, not to mention monetary funds not only providing the hardware that this site runs on as well as the network bandwidth. Add to that, regularly buying films that people requested and which I did not already have in my library, so that they would be available for download. In all, it amounted to quite a few thousands of dollars each year.

Two years ago, we had several users on this site who around the same time very vocally took issue with things that I said, publicly announced that they were quitting the system as a result, and stormed off in anger, (you know who you are, as I expect do the users who were around at the time if they reflect back on it).

I contacted both users, and told them that I would rather that I leave rather than them, and in consequence they might just as well come back to using the system, since as they did not like having me around on the site that I founded, they would no longer have this as an excuse for leaving, since I would no longer be around. I believe that both users in question did just that, and are back using the system on a regular basis.

So now you know why I am no longer here, I was essentially chased off from my own site by a pair of users who in my view were cutting off their noses to spite their faces. In any case, I just decided at the time that I did not need the aggravation. I did not, (and still don't), believe that people who do nothing but give and not take, should have to put up with being kicked in the teeth all the time.

So there is the story. This does not mean that I do not wish this site to continue on, and I remain eternally grateful to D******* for being willing to volunteer his time to continue administrating the site. Had I wished to have the site go away, it would have done so long ago, as it would only take me a matter of minutes to delete everything from one of my web and database servers, and delete the zone from the DNS servers. I have done my best in the background to keep everything running, if I have become aware that there are issues with the functioning of the site, then I have addressed them. Since I rarely actually log on anymore, unless someone contacts me, I just am not aware that something is wrong and requires my attention.

So there you have it. So now I will go away again so peace can reign.
