As many of you will remember, in October of 2013, isoHunt.com, one of the world’s largest BitTorrent sites, was forced to shut down as part of a settlement to the MPAA. After hearing that a backup plan was in the works elsewhere to archive the database, IsoHunt’s founder, Gary Fung, took the site offline two days prior to the scheduled shut-down date of October 23rd. This caused the archive process to come to a halt. In a notice posted on the site Monday, October 21st, he said, “an effort to archive links prior to the shutdown would not make much difference because the truth is about 95% of those .torrent files can be found off Google regardless and mostly have been indexed from other BitTorrent sites in the first place.” Little did we know at that time, that a new project was already underway by fans of the site to bring a new isoHunt back under different ownership as a clone of the original site, and that they had already managed to snag most of what they needed to accomplish their goal.

We’ve been following the development of the new site since October, and are happy to report on its continued progress and success. This new site went live on October 29, 2013, and a blog post on the new site at that time stated "IsoHunt is back online! It's the same old isoHunt from the outside but very different from the inside.” The new isoHunt is called isoHunt.to, and it’s important to note that neither the site, nor its owners, should be associated at all with the original isoHunt.com. The people behind the new isoHunt have been consistently devoted toward bringing isoHunt back for all the users of the original site that were displaced as a result of the isoHunt.com site shut-down.

As of today, the project team has managed to restore the majority of the original isoHunt.com’s database, and the project is still ongoing. Step-by-step progress since October has been documented on their Facebook Page.
