Percy Jackson Trailer Reveals Camp Half-Blood & Iconic Book Lines

Disney+ unveils the first teaser trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. After two poorly received movies from 20th Century Fox, author Rick Riordan's hit YA series is set to receive a proper television adaptation over at Disney+. Riordan announced the new Percy Jackson show back in 2020, and since then, he has given audiences plenty of positive updates. The cast was finalized earlier this year, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians began filming in the summer. It's expected the show will premiere sometime in 2024, though an official date has not been set.

The series will follow 12-year-old Percy (Walker Scobell) after he gets some shocking news: He's the demigod son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. From that point on, Percy is swiftly thrown into a life of adventure, which kicks off when he's accused of stealing Zeus' master lightning bolt. Riordan has indicated Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be a faithful adaptation of his books, though audiences can likely expect a few changes as the young hero makes his latest jump to live-action.

During Saturday's D23 Expo, Riordan appeared onstage alongside Percy Jackson's leading trio to reveal the first official trailer for the series. The roughly minute-long teaser from Disney+ will be familiar to fans of the books, as Percy gives an ominous voiceover and takes his first steps into Camp Half-Blood.

 

Right away, the Percy Jackson trailer confirms the series is keeping its promise in being a faithful adaptation. Percy's confession of not wanting to be a half-blood - and subsequent warning to others who might think they could be the same - is taken almost directly from Riordan's book. From there, audiences are gifted their first official look at Camp Half-Blood, from its orange shirt-clad campers to the cabins, which all represent a specific godly parent. While the Percy Jackson trailer offers little by way of plot details, it's almost a love letter to the fans who have been eagerly waiting for this series. Those who have read the books will know the significance of Percy approaching the imposing Poseidon cabin; it's an image meant to elicit chills, and it does just that.

As Riordan warned during the panel, Percy Jackson is still in the early days, so this will likely be the only trailer audiences receive for some time. Nevertheless, it does much to assure everyone that the show is in good hands. Camp Half-Blood already looks like a location that feels real and lived-in, and Scobell's voiceover suggests he'll be a great Percy. This is only the beginning of the journey for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and it will be exciting to see what comes next.
