Hardware Failure

The RAID controller on our server (Gimpy) seems to have failed. We have submitted a support ticket for hardware replacement.

After investigation by a technician at the DC it appears the RAM modules in our server (Gimpy) had failed. Server now boots however only one of the three disks in our RAID mirror is being detected.

 

The surviving disk is reporting early failure status in SMART data and seems to have been subjected to a maximum temperature of 80°C.

Further investigations are being carried out.

Failed disks have been replaced and RAID mirror sucessfully rebuilt, fsck passed. At this point we are fairly certain no data has been lost and a restore from backup is not necessary.

We are awaiting replacement of the final surviving old disk which will necessitate a second round of rebuilding the RAID mirror.

Current ETA for resumption of services is 2023-05-14 00:00:00 UTC. This ETA is subject to short notice revision.
