Eva Green & Tim Burton To Reteam for ‘Miss Peregrine’s’ Adaptation

Filmmaker Tim Burton is very much a fan of working with the same actors on more than a single project – (in)famously so where it concerns Johnny Depp – and he looks to keep that practice alive in the future, including with his upcoming film adaptation of Ransom Riggs’ popular novel, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

 

Variety is reporting that Eva Green has entered talks to play the Miss Peregrine character, who in Riggs’ book is (or, rather, was) the caretaker of an orphanage for children who possess strange and mysterious abilities – in other words, she’s the Professor X to the eponymous Home for Peculiar Children. The protagonist of Riggs’ novel, however, is teenager Jacob, who goes to investigate Miss Peregrine’s “Home†years after it’s been closed down, having long heard stories about its (former?) inhabitants from his recently-deceased grandfather.

Green and Burton previously worked together on the modern film adaptation of the cult 1960s supernatural soap opera, Dark Shadows; although that movie was generally not received with open arms, most would agree that Green was one of the picture’s highlights. Likewise, Green’s alluring, occasionally gonzo (in a good way, mind), screen presence has allowed her to feel right at home in the high-art pulpy horror world of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful. And who isn’t at least a little excited to see Green portray Frank Miller’s take on the femme fatale archetype in next month’s sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For?

Just as Green is a more-than-fitting choice to play in the cinematic version of theMiss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children universe, so is Burton to lend his darkly-kooky vision to adapting Riggs’ source material – a combination of original prose and spooky vintage photographs collected by the author. Plus, Miss Peregrine’s Homescreenwriter Jane Goldman knows her way around this sort of territory, having previously done fine work on the Gothic supernatural horror novel adaptation The Woman in Black.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children was once set to begin its theatrical release on July 31st, 2015, but Variety is reporting the project has a February 2015 start date lined up – meaning, the film’s release is certain to be pushed back. We’ll let you know what the new release frame for the film is, once we do. Meanwhile, Burton will release his artist memoir Big Eyes in theaters on Christmas Day this year.
