Tarantino’s ‘Hateful Eight’ Gets a Poster Confirming 2015 Release

Quentin Tarantino’s new western Hateful Eight is chugging along now, after having nearly been canceled by the filmmaker after his script leaked online… earlier than he would’ve liked, anyway. Tarantino recently confirmed that he will, in fact, be shooting the script; Kurt Russell and Samuel L. Jackson, who’ve collaborated with Quentin before (many times, in SLJ’s case), are lined up to play the movie’s central leads; and by the sound of it, principal photography may begin as soon as January 2015.

 

 

A Hateful Eight poster featured in an upcoming issue of Empire Magazine (hat tip to Film Divider) confirms that the film is begin targeted for a 2015 release date. That seems reasonable, as an early 2015 production start ought to allow Tarantino to make a late 2015 theatrical debut – possibly in December, like Tarantino’s spaghetti western/Blaxploitation mashup Django Unchained did in 2012 (by comparison the director’s WWII flick Inglouious Basterds arrived during the tail-end of summer, back in 2009).

 

Moreover, Hateful Eight might not be as prolonged a shoot as Tarantino’s more recent historical ventures, seeing how the script’s action is primarily restricted to a single location – bringing the director back to his indie roots, somewhat. Here is a synopsis for the story (via Collider).

 

The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.

 

Moving along, here is the first poster for Hateful Eight, confirming that the Weinstein Company has a 2015 release date for the project in mind.

 

 

 

 

The Hateful Eight one-sheet, as expected, has a minimalist retro design, recalling the design for the original Django Unchained poster that was released. By and large, it sound as though this new Quentin Tarantino joint will see the director working quite comfortably within his wheelhouse, so you should expect lots of crackling dialogue and visual references/homages to classic western cinema – among other hallmarks of the filmmaker’s oeuvre – from this motion picture.

 

For that reason, however, it’ll be interesting to see how Hateful Eight fares during the 2015 awards season – its most likely release frame, that is. Tarantino doing what he does best should go over well enough, but the competition is already starting to look pretty tough – with such heavyweights in play as Steven Spielberg’s untitled Cold War drama, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant, and most likely the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar!, among others.
