Movie News Wrap Up: ‘Vacation’, ‘Magic Mike 2′ & More

The Vacation reboot cast continues to grow; a remake ofLaura is in the works; Triple Nine and Magic Mike 2 get new release dates; and Simon Pegg’s Kill Me Three Timesgets a motion poster.

The forthcoming reboot of National Lampoon’s Vacationhas added a few more to its cast.

Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day are reportedly in talks to join the film, which features Clark Griswold’s son Rusty setting off on a family road trip of his own. Ed Helms has already been cast as Rusty and Christina Applegatewill be playing his wife.

If he’s cast, Hemsworth will play Stone Crandall, a local anchorman and the husband to Rusty’s sister Audrey. Day will play a river rafting guide.

Vacation has also found Rusty Griswold’s two sons in Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins. They will play the two unfortunate souls that Rusty drags across the country to the fictional theme park Walley World.

Fox has hired author James Ellroy (Black Dahlia, L.A. Confidential) to pen a remake of the noir thriller Laura.

Although Ellroy has seen many of his novels adapted into feature films, this will be a rare appearance for the author as a screenwriter. It also couldn’t be a more perfect film for him to adapt.

Originally released in 1944, Laura follows an NYPD detective Mark McPherson as he investigates the murder of a successful ad executive. However, in true noir fashion, the story starts to take some dark and mysterious turns the deeper McPherson goes.

Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Triple Nine has secured September 11, 2015 for its release date.

The film boasts a star-studded cast including Casey Affleck, Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, and Aaron Paul, just to name a few. Its story follows a group of dirty cops forced to call in a ’999,’ or the police code for “officer down,†so as to rob a bank.John Hillcoat (The Road) will direct.

In other release date news, Channing Tatum’s Magic Mike 2 (aka Magic Mike XXL) has moved from a July 3rd, 2015 release date to July 1st. Clearly Tatum & Co. want to get a bigger head start on the 4th of July holiday with some fireworks of their own.

The Simon Pegg thriller Kill Me Three Times has unveiled a cool new motion poster, which you can check out below.

The film casts Pegg as Charlie Wolfe, an assassin hired to kill a young woman in the Australian surfing town of Eagle’s Nest. However, Pegg’s character soon finds himself in well over his head when he discovers the woman is a common thread in three different crimes.

Kill Me Three Times is screening at this year’s Telluride Film Festival, but does not currently have a domestic release date.
