Ariana: I ditched hockey sticks and Halloween masks

Ariana Grande is proud she swapped to "healthier choices" after once being obsessed with Halloween masks and a hockey stick.

The 21-year-old singer has made no secret of how worried her mom was about her growing up. The star's habits were so concerning, her mother feared she'd become a serial killer - but luckily things have improved.

"I was a little weird ' I had a phase where I wore a lot of Halloween masks and I would carry a hockey stick around with me, but that was just a few years and I turned out fine," she laughed to British talk show host Alan Carr.

"It was definitely a weird phase, it went from the ages of two to about four I guess, but it was fine, and then it switched to like Dorothy outfits and healthier choices."

Now she's a big name in showbiz, Ariana has to deal with a lot of speculation about her life. There are new rumors on a daily basis and, while she doesn't usually concern herself with them, there was one she wanted to clear up.

It had been widely suggested that when she was younger, the former Nickelodeon star got booted out of a home for the elderly because she'd been singing rude songs. That wasn't the case at all, with Ariana explaining the issue was actually some lyrics which embarrassed her and her pals. They had formed a group and went around singing to raise money for good causes, but didn't think through one track properly.

"We had this weird moment when we were singing ' you know You Are What You Own, from Rent? ' you get to the after the bridge part, and the lyrics change from, 'You're living in America,' to, 'You're dying in America,' and there's a bunch of 90-year-olds, and we had this moment where we all sort of looked at each other like, 'Oh sh*t' [sings]... We're like, 'Thank god they can't hear us, this is terrible!' but it was fine, they were just like, 'Oh look, cute young people, singing.'"
