Far Cry 4 Targeting 1080p Across Xbox One and PS4

Director says "asshats" get too caught up in resolution debate when the reality is that "gameplay trumps all."

 

Ubisoft's upcoming open-world game Far Cry 4 is targeting 1080p resolution across Xbox One andPlayStation 4, the publisher confirmed today, following Twitter comments from director Alex Hutchinson. Even if the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Far Cry 4 end up running in different native resolutions, the differences will be negligible, he said.

Asked by a fan on Twitter how the Xbox One version looks in comparison to the PS4 iteration, Hutchinsonsaid: "I would say identical but then some asshat would say a tree had one more leaf on xbone. So let's say I don't see a difference."

Another fan asked Hutchinson why Ubisoft couldn't lower the resolution to in turn improve the frame rate. Hereplied: "Because then people would just complain about that."

Like other Ubisoft developers before him, it doesn't sound like Hutchinson is too interested in engaging with the debate around resolution and frame rate. Overall, he said "gameplay trumps everything."

GameSpot contacted Ubisoft for comment regarding the graphical benchmarks for the console versions of Far Cry 4 and received the following statement:

"With more than a month left until the Far Cry 4 launch, the team continues to maximize the gameplay experience across all consoles, and PC," a representative said. "We have not yet locked the resolution as yet, but, as Alex Hutchinson notes, we are aiming for 1080p on all platforms, including PC (depending on the computer you have). We look forward to introducing fans to the world of Kyrat!"

Hutchinson has kept busy answering Twitter questions about Far Cry 4 in the lead-up to the game's release next month. He also reveals that it will take you around 35 hours to finish the game.

Far Cry 4 is in development for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game launches on November 18 across all platforms, and the PS4 version has a special multiplayer perk. The game's release next month could be followed up with a Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon-style spinoff, too.
